In the storyline basically Bucky sort of snapped a little bit. He went on a mission and he went missing for about a month, or so, in New York and they [the Russians] couldn’t find him. So he kind of walked around like a homeless person for a while. He was trying to figure out what he was doing and where he was. And during that process there was no one there giving him a haircut. —Sebastian Stan

I feel like a lot of people write Steve as wanting to be very touchy-feely with Bucky post-WS and Bucky being more “no touchy! No touch” and while I’m here for that

Bucky seemed a lot more inclined to casual affectionate touch than Steve if you pay attention in FA. He puts his arm around Steve in the alleyway; he holds hands with his date to the expo; he grabs Steve shoulder and goes in for the hug when they say good-bye at the recruitment office. I don’t think you can say that Steve has ever been touch-repulsed but if you notice he tends not to let his touches linger very long, even with Bucky, and he doesn’t go for the physical contact first unless it’s necessary.

So it might be interesting to read a CW/post-WS story where as Bucky is getting his personality back he starts touching Steve more without consciously thinking about it, and Steve is the one who is a little put off by it…or just is the one who allows it, rather than the one who initiates it.

bucky in fic: steve u asshole u could’ve been killed! what were u thinking? let me bandage u up and get u a nice cup of tea, i love u so much

actual bucky:

STEVE: To be used a weapon against your will…I can’t imagine how hard that must have been.

BUCKY: U GONNA LEARN

This keeps showing up on my dash and I have to reblog each time, because “U GONNA LEARN” never fails to make me lose my shit.

For real though: the fics and the movie are both the real Bucky Barnes. Cause only you get to pick on your person. If someone else shoved Steve through a window, you know Bucky’d have his foot so far up that person’s ass they’d be tasting his shoelaces.

Steve: Remember that time in Azzano when I threw you over that fiery pit?? You throwing me at the cops. That wasnt payback, was it?

Bucky: Now why would I do that?

“Steve.”

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Can I just step in here for a second and point out that when Steve found Bucky, he was all alone, repeating his name rank and serial number (which is what soldiers are trained to let be the only things they say under torture or interrogation) to an empty room. They’ve clearly broken him to the point where all he can do is just keep saying that over and over again. And what’s the first thing he says when he snaps out of it?

That. Fucking. Smile.

Ok I put this in the tags before but fuck it, I’m a fandom middleaged and we add unnecessary comments dammit:

You cannot convince me that Bucky didn’t think he was dead here, and that’s why he’s got that giddy little smile and why he’s not initially shocked that Steve is taller and broader and dressed like a soldier. I go by the assumption that Bucky is at least nominally Christian, so he was probably taught at some point that in Heaven the dead have glorified bodies, and since Steve is now all the things he wanted to be…Steve died while Bucky was overseas, and he’s come to take Bucky to the afterlife, and Bucky’s finally done with the fear and torture and listening to people die on the tables around him.

He realizes that they’re not dead in the middle of being pulled off the table. That’s why he goes from having That Smile to being bewildered, and then almost angry-sounding as they’re trying to find their way out. Because for a brief, shining moment he thought the horror show was over, but it’s not.

Adds another layer to the “no not without you” scene doesn’t it
