Couples receive “parent points”, which they can use to purchase their children. Most parents wait for a few thousand, but you chose to buy the cheaper, 100 point child.
Shane knows what it’s like to be a 100 point child. He knows how it feels to see potential parents–potential families–come through the facilities doors, faces bright with excitement. He knows how it feels to see them reading the little plaques on the nursery doors, scanning the lists there for the right bits of knowledge and etiquette and grace that they want their baby to have.
He knows how it feels to see their faces pinch outside the window before they hurry to the next room.
Shane grew up in a 100 point nursery. They had torn, ratty, books and no teachers, and when snack time came, the tray was pushed through a slat in the door. They were called “unruly” and “damaged” and “stupid.” A lot of the other kids threw tantrums and broke furniture (and sometimes other kids). A lot of the other kids went quiet after the first few years when they realized they’d never be adopted until they were old enough (or pretty enough) to be useful. A lot of the kids cried and didn’t stop until they got taken away or were aged out.
Shane’s grown up a lot since aging out. He put himself through school, got himself a job, shed his 100 points like the torn clothes he’d left the facility in. He’s powerful now, successful, and he’s grown out of the twisted nose, big ears, and gap-toothed smile that had made him one of the less attractive 100 point babies. Or maybe he’s grown into them. Who’s to say?
It’s taken him a long time to get enough Parent Points to do what he wants. Being a man is, for once, somewhat hindering as most of society equates “parental” with “maternal.” He’s lost count of how many social workers have politely hid expressions of surprise when he told them he wanted to adopt stag, that he’s willing to take the classes, get the grades, make the oaths to get even one Parent Point.
They told Bucky to kill Tony’s parents without witnesses and he manages to find the probably only forest in the world with a random security camera by the road-side and kills them exactly in front of that security camera while looking right at said security camera when he disables it and also fails to make sure that the tape inside is destroyed how can you screw up so bad?
imagine how many people Hydra had on staff specifically to follow him around, wiping cameras, picking up his 27 discarded weapons, paying off/killing that entire cafe he once strolled into at noon and shot a dude in.
the guy strolled down fuckin Main Street Washington with a grenade launcher, that “ghost story” reputation did not come easy.
I wondered that too – if he does everything like that attack on Fury how is he a fucking ghost-story?
Imagine that’s your job like:
“Okay, you know how this works. We’re missing a rocket launcher, a mask, three hand-guns, the corpse of the target, two daggers with his finger-prints on them, the Asset’s mask and a helicopter. All of which are somewhere in [whatever city] and have to be retrieved in less than two hours. Go!”
“Ermm…boss? There’s another YouTube video.”
“He’s a brilliant assassin they said. The best there is they said.”
For lack of a better explanation, I’ll attribute it to Bucky’s sub-conscious trying to make shit difficult for them.
The MCU tried to sell a narrative about Bucky wanting a ‘Simple Life’ after being freed of HYDRA, herding his sheep and goats in the rural Wakanda farmlands… but that entire narrative was wiped away when Bucky grinned at the security dome and said “god I love this place”. And it was beautiful.
Because we all know that Wakanda technology is EXACTLY why Bucky wanted to stay in Wakanda. We all know he spent his days hovering around Shuri, just watching her work in the labs because he wanted to see the technology being built. We all know that Bucky lived in a modern apartment in the city and was in awe of all the tiny technological advances. Bucky probably used his sheepherding money to buy Wakandan tech, too – and it was probably tech that did nothing of importance, Bucky just wanted it because it was cool. He probably couldn’t contain his excitement over dumb stuff like kitchen equipment, and Wakandans found him oddly endearing because of that.
This is the boy who spent his last night before being shipped to the Front at a Stark Expo because he needed to see a floating car. A city in Wakanda is everything pre-war Bucky would have dreamed of a Perfect Future.
AHHHH. IT WAS WORTH THE HYPE. Was not disappointed in any way.
In general my main complaints with Marvel movies is… I could do with a little less action. Not NO action, just… less. So I can have more character screen time. Specifically Cap and Bucky.
But yeah.
SO happy that Black Panther was so good and there was only one white person in the movie, and sooooo many amazing women and unf. UNF.
Dissociation can be difficult to understand, especially if you haven’t had much experience in knowledge of it. Dissociation in basics represents a disconnect among one’s thoughts, emotions, behaviors, memories, and identity. Below is a list of classic signs that you are dissociating.
Depersonalization: Depersonalization is the experience of feeling separation from yourself and your body. People who experience such a feeling usually observe that they feel like they are watching their own body from the outside, or from another perspective.
Derealization: Derealization is vaguely similar to depersonalization, but it is a feeling of detachment from the external world, such as other people or objects. Derealization may cause familiar things to become unfamiliar.
Amnesia: Some people who experience dissociation have fluent periods of amnesia, of which they are feeling as if they don’t know who or where they are. There can be any amount of time in which they are awake and alert but cannot remember what they were doing.
Identity Confusion: Probably the most common experience, this occurs when a sufferer experiences an inner struggle about who they really are, their identity, what their personality is, why they are alive etc.
Identity Alteration: This is an experience of a person who senses that they act like a different person some of the time, creating a personality tailored to take place around each specific person in one’s life. Things like voices, clothing and interests differ amongst each loved one.
A common occurance of dissociation in everyday life is zoning out. You might be walking along the street, listening to music and you become so unfocused on reality and so focused on a thought or image that you miss a section of conscious walking. And to your surprise, you’re still upright and walking.
All of this is very common in bpd, and it can be quite frightening if it’s never happened to you before. The first step is accepting that you do dissociate. We have experienced a series of traumatic events and our minds try to block it out in an attempt of protection. You will have to accept that in a stressful environment, memories of the trauma will try to come back, but it is only a natural way of your brain reminding you of the danger and as a result we dissociate to stay safe. Many will not have the ability to face those traumas right then, however that does not mean you never will. But, a dissociative episode can be dangerous depending on where you are, so it’s definitley best to try your hardest to refocus and rettach if you can. Stay safe out there.
